Our Top Flower Events Of 2020

If you’re looking for horticultural highlights with which to fill your new year’s calendar, we’ve rounded up what we consider to be the top flower-based events of 2020. From festivals to shows, take a look at what we recommend over the coming 12 months.

Singapore Garden Festival
Considered among the top flower and garden shows on the international calendar, the Singapore Garden Festival takes place every two years and 2020 marks your next chance to experience it. The event attracts award-winning landscape and garden designers, florists and horticulturists from around the globe, which – after a visit – may come as no surprise. RHS Chelsea Flower Show
An annual event that needs no introduction, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a powerhouse celebration of all things horticultural. 2020 is a particularly exciting year to experience the flower show because it boasts a new garden category – Urban Gardens. This theme aims to showcase how modest spaces can be made into captivating gardens in unlikely and often surprising ways. There will also be a dedicated space for floristry at Chelsea in 2020 and the event will mark the 10-year anniversary of Plant of the Year with a special display of all the winners from over the past decade. RHS Garden Bridgewater
Finally opening to the public in 2020, the gardens of RHS Bridgewater have been a long time in the making. Tim Upton, Director of Horticulture at the RHS, recently spoke to us about the project and explained that it will maximise benefits for local communities. He said: “Working with, supporting and providing facilities for the local community have been at the core of the Bridgewater vision from the outset. The project will create over 140 jobs in the garden and a further 180 in the local economy by 2029. There are also apprenticeships, partnerships with schools and local colleges as well as community gardening projects across the region that will benefit. Estimates have put the initial direct investment of £30m into the local economy by 2023, adding £13.8m pa to the local economy by 2029.” Book a place on our RHS Bridgewater and Gardens of the North West tour to experience this exciting new garden for yourself.

Dutch Bulbfields
The gardens of Keukenhof are known the world over, and for good reason. Every spring, these bulbfields in the Netherlands come alive, bursting into vibrant colour. Some 7 million bulbs are planted annually in the fields (and around 800 varieties of tulip) and the eventual bloom is so astounding that people flock from all over the world to witness the magnitude and vibrancy first-hand. Our Dutch Bulbfields tour – either by Eurostar or by air – will not only take you to Keukenhof, but also to Zaanse Schans, where more tulips can be seen growing all around picturesque wooden windmills.

WAFA 2020
Taking place once every three years is the fantastic World Association of Flower Arrangers’ (WAFA) showpiece event. In 2020, it will be held in the vibrant Indian city of Jaipur and is bound to enchant anyone with an interest in flower arranging and floral art. The exhibition hall will play host to flower-arranging demonstrations, lectures and magnificent displays created by professional and novice horticulturists alike, and we spend an entire day at the event to ensure there’s ample time to take it all in. Seasonal Gardens of Japan – Cherry Blossom
Every spring, from March onwards, Japan awaits the arrival of the first buds of the beautiful pink cherry blossom – sakura – to appear. Book a place on our Seasonal Gardens of Japan tour, departing March 25th, for your chance to experience this annual blossoming. We will take you to the gardens of the Imperial Palace, which is home to attractive weeping cherry trees, and there will also be a visit to Senso-ji Temple, where cherry blossom might be on display. As with any natural wonder, we can’t guarantee it, but visiting Japan in late March offers great odds!

 

RHS Chatsworth Flower Show
An event that aims to showcase the best in British design and innovation, RHS Chatsworth Flower Show is well worth a visit. Set among the rolling Derbyshire countryside, in the grounds of Chatsworth Estate, this celebration of all things horticultural will return in June – and we can’t wait. The Mindfulness Gardens category is set to return, there will be an array of show gardens on display and, of course, there will be a host of talks on offer for those interested. RHS Flower Show Tatton Park
Once again, the Royal Horticultural Society will bring its spectacular celebration of flowers and gardening to England’s north west for the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park. Taking place in the 1000-acre deer park of Tatton Park, the show itself will be brimming with attractions, imaginative displays and awe-inspiring show gardens. From the latest trends in plants and garden furniture, to helpful people who can offer advice on how to make the most of your own garden – this classic English flower show has everything you need to help your garden to flourish.
