Walking Holidays

Many of us are seeking more from our travels nowadays than a chance to relax and merely observe. One of the most popular activities that travellers want to do on their holidays is walk! Not only does walking help to keep us fit, it also promotes good mental well-being. That's right, the benefits of walking are broad – from helping to improve sleep quality and overall mood, to reducing stress and supporting heart health!

What's more, you can also experience new perspectives by taking walking trails that you would otherwise miss! What better way to make the most of a holiday?

Walking in the Outer Hebrides

A highly scenic drive through the Highlands and a pleasant sail from Skye takes us to our comfortable hotel in Tarbert, Harris. Over the following three days, we will set out on a series of stimulating walks featuring some of the finest vistas and most fascinating ancient monuments that the Western Isles have to offer. There is a circular walk round the island of Scalpay and its picturesque lighthouse, followed by a stroll along the much-photographed but usually deserted Luskentyre Beach; rambles among the ruins of Carloway Broch and the mesmerising Standing Stones of Callanish, and a challenging but highly rewarding walk from Tarbert with stunning coastal views.

Walking in Cornwall

Our Cornish spring or late summer walking experience is based around the 28-mile Saint’s Way that runs coast to coast from Padstow to Fowey, continuing along the probable route of early Christian travellers making their way from Ireland to the Continent, which unlocks the atmosphere of the fascinating Celtic past and traditions of the region. After walking the first section from Padstow to Withiel, we have a relaxing afternoon in the country house garden of Pencarrow. Next day, we walk the section from Withiel to Lanivery and in the afternoon explore Lanhydrock House and Gardens. After walking the final section of the trail from Lanivery to Fowey, we transfer to Marsh Villa.

Walking in the Peak District

The first of our walks takes us from Bakewell to Chatsworth House, through wonderful woodland and peaceful pastures with far-reaching views to the peaks beyond. The next day we walk along the trackbed of a former railway line to Bakewell and beside the River Derwent to Haddon Hall, a romantic and historic property with a lovely rose garden. Our final walk takes us from the village of Eyam, which famously ‘self-isolated’ during the plague years of the 16th century, over heather-covered moors into the deep and sheltered valley of Bretton Clough and an idyllic (and no doubt very welcome) country pub. In the afternoon we venture underground at the Blue John Cavern where beautiful blue semi-precious gemstones were once mined.
