Private Gardens of Yorkshire with Joe Swift (Country Living/Good Housekeeping)
Summary
Famed for the rugged beauty of its national parks, Yorkshire is a stunning corner of the UK. It’s also home to many of the country’s most innovative and impressive gardens, both old and new. On this exciting four-day horticultural tour, we visit the acclaimed contemporary garden at Scampston in the company of TV presenter and landscape gardener Joe Swift, who has declared it his favourite garden in the county.
We also visit Burton Agnes Hall, whose magnificent walled garden contains over 4000 different plant species; Jackson’s Wold, another walled garden with old roses and unusual perennials, and explore the intriguing garden at York Gate. Privately-owned gardens also feature, such as Stillingfleet Lodge, a plantsman’s garden which is subdivided into smaller gardens; Birstwith Hall, a large four acre garden nestling in a secluded Yorkshire dale and The Nursery, an attractive one acre garden hidden behind a suburban house. Of course, we could not come to Yorkshire without visiting Harlow Carr, the Royal Horticultural Society’s northern flagship, which continues to set the highest possible standards in the gardening world.
