Summer Gardens of the Peak District
Summary
The Peak District, with its impressive limestone-scarred hills and its deep, wooded dales, has a special atmosphere of its own. We will enjoy an ever-changing backdrop as we tour a sequence of gardens both large and small, at a time of year the trees and plants are at the peak of their growing season, with dark velvety greens punctuated by flashes of vivid colour.
We start at Biddulph Grange, a Victorian gem which takes the visitor on a botanical world tour. A lovely drive through the heart of the Peak District takes us to Haddon Hall, whose ancient walls are covered with climbing roses, before we visit nearby Chatsworth House with its classical parkland and opulent interiors. After a visit to a delightfully old-fashioned cottage garden we drive up into the high peaks of the National Park, enjoying wonderful panoramic views. Our tour concludes at the tranquil woodland garden of Hare Hill.
