Summary

Set against the classic landscape shaped by Capability Brown and Joseph Paxton, Chatsworth House is the crown jewel among the many attractions of Derbyshire’s Peak District. After a tour of the house with its sumptuous interiors and furnishings we will explore the extensive grounds before enjoying a specially arranged private lunch.

We also visit some of the region’s classic gardens including Felley Priory, with its beautiful herbaceous borders, old fashioned roses and white garden; Hardwick Hall known for its woodland, an orchard and romantic rambling roses and Haddon Hall, which although an ancient residence, has had areas of the garden redesigned in the past few years.

In addition, we venture into neighboring Yorkshire and visit RHS Garden Harlow Carr. Set on the outskirts of Harrogate, the garden is divided by a stream into a mature woodland area which has a wide range of mature trees, rhododendrons and specimen trees and the herbaceous area where different styles of gardening can be seen. The fruit and vegetable gardens will inspire keen gardeners to try something new and the Alpine house always has interesting and beautiful plants to see.

Our tour concludes at Hare Hill in Cheshire, where we find a tranquil woodland garden surrounded by parkland, with a delightful walled garden at its heart.
