Jersey Overview

A mere 55-minutes flying time from London, Jersey is a small island that packs a big punch. From a 12th century castle to unspoilt coastlines, and from historic war tunnels to a national park that extends around 30 miles of Jersey's coastline – this is the largest of the Channel Islands and there is much to be discovered here. Plant-lovers will be enchanted by the gardens in Jersey, which range from those that are home to rare and unusual plants to stunning, privately owned botanical gardens. With a better climate that England, flowers, plants and trees thrive here, and put on magnificent displays throughout the year.

Country Information - Jersey

  • Visa: British and Irish citizens do not need a visa to explore Jersey, but will be required to show a valid passport upon arrival. The same goes for EU nationals. All non-European and non-EEA nationals who arrive from abroad must show a valid passport to immigration control on arrival in Jersey.
  • Currency: The currency in Jersey is sterling, but the island has its own money, known as the Jersey pound. During your holiday here, it’s likely that you will be handed Jersey money as change when you’re shopping, but English money can be freely used. Debit and credit cards are also accepted here, too.
  • Packing advice: Thanks to its position in the Gulf Stream, Jersey enjoys an enviable warm climate, which should be considered while packing for a visit there. Typically sunnier than mainland Britain, it’s wise to bring layered clothing and sunhats for holidays across the summer months. A raincoat or something waterproof is always advisable, however.
  • Language: While the Normandy coast of France is visible from Jersey and some residents will speak French, the main language spoken on the island is English.
  • Cultural differences: There are few cultural differences to be noted on a holiday to Jersey.
  • Tipping: Tipping isn’t necessarily expected, and a service charge will usually be added to a bill. However, for great service, tips are always welcome.
